Individuals participating in the RIDEforHOPE Spinning® fundraiser on March 7th helped raise more than $11,000 to benefit the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia.

All of the funds raised will stay in South Georgia and be used to serve local residents through the Cancer Coalition’s screening, education and support programs.

Led by International Master Spinning® instructor Josh Taylor, 56 indoor cyclists metaphorically soared into the sky in an all-out dog fight during the Fighter Pilot Ride at Tony’s Westside Gym of Albany. Many participants dedicated their RIDE in honor or memory of a loved one touched by cancer, and as they imagined conquering enemy fighter jets, they also imagined conquering cancer.

“We are amazed at the community’s support for the RIDE, which reminds us of how many individuals in this area are affected by cancer,” said Diane Fletcher, CEO of the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia. “We are honored to have hosted internationally-recognized instructors for both our 2012 and 2013 RIDES. With such strong interest from participants and sponsors, we plan to continue holding RIDES to raise awareness about the Cancer Coalition’s work while raising funds to help us keep fighting cancer right here.”

The Cancer Coalition thanks major sponsors Tony Powell and Tony’s Gym of
Albany, Barbara Hoots and Indoor Cycle Design, Hughston Clinic, DOCO Credit Union, Colony Bank, Compass Cleaners and PuroClean. In addition, refreshments were provided by Zaxby’s, Walmart, and Sam’s Club. Riders also competed for prizes awarded to the top five participants raising the most funds. Prizes were provided by HP Hotels, Kinderlou Forest Golf Club, Tony’s Gym, Wild Adventures, Cycle World, Breakaway Cycles, LT Nails, Olive Garden, Outback Steakhouse, El Vaquero, Austin’s FireGrill, Nail Spa and Bell Plantation.
