Individuals participating in the RIDEforHOPE Spinning® fundraiser on October 11th helped net more than $7,000 to benefit the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia. All of the funds raised will stay in South Georgia and be used to serve local residents through the Cancer Coalition’s screening, education and support programs.

Led by Master Spinning® instructor Scott Schlesinger, 55 cyclists metaphorically rode to the summit of Mount Everest at Tony’s Westside Gym of Albany. Many participants dedicated their RIDE in honor or memory of a loved one touched by cancer, and they imagined conquering cancer and other struggles as they conquered the peak.

“The community’s response to this epic indoor cycling event to support the Cancer Coalition was overwhelming,” said Barbara Hoots, Spinning® instructor at Tony’s Gym and organizer of Ride to Everest. “Students pedaled with passion and inspiration for 2 grueling hours to overcome their own physical limitations while helping to raise money for those in Southwest Georgia affected by cancer.”

The Cancer Coalition thanks major sponsors Regions Bank in Albany, Indoor Cycle Design and Tony’s Gym. In addition, refreshments were provided by Zaxby’s, Piggly Wiggly and Sam’s Club and door prizes were provided by Empire Distributors, LT Nails, Tommy Mc’s Produce and Country Store and Wil-Power Massage Therapy.

The Cancer Coalition of South Georgia is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization serving 32 counties in South Georgia with cancer research, screening and other services, education and outreach.
